Ursula Lampmann, partner of Phoenix Contact, has passed away

From |

Lampmann, Ursula

Ursula Lampmann, partner of Phoenix Contact, died on Friday, 26 June 2015, at the age of 94 years in Blomberg. Born in Essen, she joined the company in 1937 and headed the commercial areas as partner of Phoenix Contact for more than five decades. Above all, with her far-sighted handling of the finances she played a crucial role in the successful growth of the company, from small beginnings to global player in the industry.

With her kind and open-minded personality and her appreciative manner she shaped the corporate culture and spirit of Phoenix Contact. She retired in 1995. As requested by the deceased, the funeral took place in the narrowest family circle.

Embrace – Mistake

From |

Admit it… who has never made any mistake in his/her life.

Successful person holds the attitude of embracing mistake, they know that mistakes are part and parcel of life. Therefore, if you want to lead a successful career, firstly you need to accept your embrace your own mistake. Do not finger point, saying it was result of others or certain event that happen, you may end up just searching for an excuse to cover your mistake and you may not achieve the result you want.

One good example I had read online was Thomas Edison and his invention of Light Bulb.

He did approx 10,000 times of attempts before he successfully invented light bulb, he did not give up or find excuses not to continue. What he did was to embrace the mistake he made, and moved on… through his perspective, I quote “I have not Failed, I ‘ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work” he also comment that “Many of life’s Failure are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up”

In our daily life, there are something within ourselves that we can control and by making a little changes to our attitude towards mistake, we may receive something unexpected. Therefore, I would like to share the following points towards how one should feel about mistake:

  • Change our attitudes to mistakes so that mistakes become something we no longer ashamed of
  • Dare to admit on your mistakes and learn from it
  • Without mistakes there would not be progress and no success
  • It’s ok to fall… but remember to pick yourself up positively

Everyone knows that it is sometime hard to admit your own mistake, and the easy way out is to point outwards. But when you are brave enough to stand up for the mistake you done, you also build your trust and honesty within your friends and team.

If mistake was created by your colleague, friend, or even family member. You must be sensitive about it, no one like to make mistake… they might already be feeling bad and by continuously blaming them would not change any outcome. Why don’t you consider talking to them and tell them about the ways they could have done for the benefit of future should the same situation rise again. In short, my recommendation would be:

  • Eliminate fears of admitting mistakes –
    • Be approachable
    • They know they are wrong, make discussion not whining
    • Embrace them
  • Support them, take risk together and learn together –
    • Discuss and agree on decision
    • One for all, all for one
  • Encourage to make mistakes, and make sure they learn from it –
    • Respect them for their position and critical thinking
    • Allow space for decision and let them be successful

There are many other ways to approach a similar situation…

I hope this article give you a slight change of perspective towards mistake, to embrace or blame, you make your own decision. Remember, before pointing out the flaws in others… look into yourself. 🙂 Spare a thought for others.

Chief Executive Officer Frank Stührenberg expressed his “delight at the results for 2014” during a press conference on Phoenix Contact’s economic growth for the past year. The corporate group’s revenues grew by 8.5 percent to €1.775 billion. “We have tripled our revenues within 15 years,” says Stührenberg, highlighting the successful results. The industrial electronics manufacturer invested €125 million in the expansion of the corporate group. An 11,000-m² innovation and production center was opened in the U.S., where 250 employees work in research and development, marketing, and production. The global workforce increased by approximately 1,100 new employees.

Phoenix Contact is expecting revenue growth of eight percent for the current year. Stührenberg is optimistic in his outlook. “We are seeing a growth in the markets where Phoenix Contact already has a strong presence and our products have already been in use for a long time.” These include the market segments of infrastructure, energy distribution, and renewable energy. The company wants to invest approximately €150 million in national and international expansion activities. A new building in Bad Pyrmont, Germany, will provide an office and lab space of 18,000 m² for the corporate group’s ability to provide expert solutions. Completion is slated for the end of 2016. Phoenix Contact E-Mobility GmbH will establish a subsidiary in China, the world’s largest electromobility market, in the third quarter of 2015. An investment of €20 million will increase production volumes at the site in Nowy Tomy?l, Poland. On 1 September, 100 trainees will embark on a new career, and almost half of them will start in July already as part of their dual education study program.

Touted as the economic barometer of consumer confidence, the Hanover Trade Show begins on 13 April. India is the partner country this year. The electronics specialist will present its innovations and forward-looking technologies at the 2,300-m² exhibition space. One of the main topics will be Industry 4.0, a guiding principle that demonstrates how digitalization is changing not only society but industrial processes, as well. Visitors can experience the continuous data flow live in Hall 8. Here the companies Eplan, Rittal, and Phoenix Contact will be demonstrating a continuous, automated process, from the digitization of an item to its engineering and production. “The Hanover Trade Show has traditionally been a key international trade show for us,” explains Stührenberg. “This year, we will be exhibiting more than 100 innovations and are expecting delegations from more than 50 countries with over 1,000 visitors.”

Easter2015-D4-v2

Do you know…

Easter is understood to include Good Friday and Easter Sunday, which are three days apart. However Easter truly refers to Easter Sunday – the day on which the resurrection of Jesus is remembered and celebrated.

Easter is the most ancient of Christian festivals, it is older than Christmas, and is considered the most important date in the Christian calendar.

Happy Easter Day! Cheers
