The Catan product family is making an important contribution to the All Electric Society
The All Electric Society envisions integrating industry, energy, infrastructure, and mobility. The Catan product family is ideal for building automation sector.

Electrification, networking, and automation are key to the All Electric Society. The Catan product family enables building networking, while Phoenix Contact connectors also support this vision.
The Catan building automation solution
Catan is a versatile building control system with extensive interfaces, supporting common fieldbus standards like KNX, Modbus, DALI MM, DMX, and MQTT. With a native KNX connection, it combines a controller and KNX IP/TP router in one. The Emalytics/Niagara framework enables seamless integration.

The standardized 6 HP DIN rail design simplifies planning and suits both room automation with touch protection and primary HVAC systems. Clearly marked terminals and QR-coded data access enhance usability. The tool-free 2.4″ touch display offers flexible installation, maintenance, and control for all users—from technicians to operators. These innovations reflect Phoenix Contact’s cross-disciplinary expertise.
The right housing
The Catan product family uses a customizable version of the BC Modular housing system, offering flexible DIN-rail mounting with touch protection. Moreover, its uniform 6 HP width ensures scalability and simplifies planning—especially valuable for complex, high-investment building projects.
Board-to-board connection
Catan uses FP 0,8 series connectors for board-to-board connections, allowing multiple connectors on a PCB thanks to the ScaleX system’s high tolerance compensation. Two horizontal male strips on one PCB connect vertically to female strips on stacked PCBs—this design is made possible by the FP 0,8 series.
With a 0.8 mm pitch, compact footprint, and optimal stack height and wipe length, the FP 0,8 series is ideal for space-saving, high-performance connections. Gold-plated contacts ensure stable signal transmission up to 52 Gbps and high currents, while optional shielding enhances EMI protection or current transfer.
The housing base protects contacts during mounting, while high inclination tolerance ensures reliable connections. Even in large volumes, device mounting is fast and efficient.
PCB terminal blocks for the connection level
Phoenix Contact’s reflow-solderable SPTA-THR 1,5 Push-in PCB terminal blocks, with a 3.81 mm pitch and 45° cable outlet, are ideal for high-temperature environments. Push-in Technology allows tool-free insertion of rigid cables, maximizing convenience in tight control cabinet spaces.

Catan extension modules use SPTA-THR 1,5 terminal blocks with Single Pair Ethernet for robust, decentralized, high-performance connections. The new SPTA-THR 2,5, with a 45° outlet and 5 mm pitch, supports up to 24 A and 4 mm² conductors, fitting seamlessly into the Catan system.
Further connection technology with RJ45, KNX, and USB-C
The three RJ45 jacks for Gbps Ethernet and the red-black KNX interface, both from Phoenix Contact, are THR-capable. USB-C connectors support various adapters for protocol conversion, such as EnOcean wireless integration.
