Written by Andy Neat, Senior Product Manager – Marking & Identification and Toolfox

Morning and welcome to another Monday morning Blog from myself. I hope you’re all well and that life has started to normalise for you slowly.

What takes the most amount of your time daily? Assembly? Picking? Wiring? Marking? Testing? Well, if the answer to that is wiring then we can help you out with some time saving tools to help streamline your processes.

The tools listed below are not only huge time saving pieces of equipment but also on a special offer for the rest of this year.

The CF 3000 will strip and crimp your wires in less then 2secs… 1.2secs to be precise! The time saved on this machine is approx. 4x over a minute. The CF 3000 will strip and crimp wire sizes of 0.25mm, 0.5mm, 0.75mm, 1mm, 1.5mm and 2.5mm that are supplied on a strip of 50pcs.

Feel the power

From |

Written my Mark Lloyd, Senior Product Manager- Power Supplies & Surge Protection

The 1st Standard DIN RAIL power supply with 110 VDC output.

Up until now, the highest output we could achieve with one PSU was 56VDC using a 48DC power supply turned up to its maximum voltage. In order to achieve the higher voltages for which we are regularly asked, it was only possible with two wired in series. For example two series connected 48DC nominal power supplies individually “tweaked” up to 55DC.

Try before you buy

From |

Written by Gary Nelson, Senior Product Manager- Device Connections

When working on a new design and you need to decide which connection technology to use wouldn’t it be useful if you could try before you buy?

With so many connectors to choose from, as a design engineer you may need to try a few products before committing to the one that really fits your needs. If you include the different connection types for the printed circuit board (PCB) and how to connect the wires to the connectors themselves the choice becomes ever greater.

When you have reached an initial connector choice or more one of the main issues you may then face is having to commit to buying a complete box quantity. The last thing you want to do at this stage is start the process all over again because the option of only buying one or two pieces simply isn’t available.

To help ease this burden in the design process Phoenix Contact has launched an online sample service offering in excess of 3000 parts. The ranges include printed circuit board (PCB) terminal blocks, PCB connectors and circular connectors which are all available free of charge. When you are viewing a part on our website if it is available as a sample you’ll see the sample service image. If, however, another product within the range is available instead i.e. a different number of poles or a different colour you’ll be given the option of viewing the alternative part which you can then order as a sample instead.

We want to ensure that choosing the connectors for your next design project is as straightforward as possible, so you don’t need to register to use the system. In a few easy to follow steps you can choose the connector or connectors you want, complete the required data fields and have them delivered directly to your door, for free. All requests placed before 2pm are ready for shipment the same day and after 2pm they will be processed the following day, so you know your sample will arrive quickly.

Protect your electronics- whatever the weather!

From |

Written by Gary Nelson, Senior Product Manager- Device Connections.

With temperatures rising and thunderclouds forming our weather systems create challenging environments for externally based electronic devices so how do you ensure they still function?

We all hear of global warming in the media almost daily and, whether you believe the hype or not, none of us can deny that our UK weather has a tendency to change dramatically very quickly. As people, we can change the layers of clothing we wear to compensate for temperature changes and it’s a worldwide commonly used myth that all British people carry an umbrella everywhere, so the constant rainfall doesn’t stop us going about our daily lives. All this is fine for us, albeit the umbrella reference really is a myth, however externally mounted electronic devices have no choice but to continue to function whatever the weather.

Phoenix Contact in the Rail industry

From |

Written by Nuno Vasco, Field Sales Engineer- Rail

I have been managing the Rail Industry for Phoenix Contact for over a year now and I can only look back and reflect on the challenges faced by myself.  Also how I have tackled these challenges and removed them from the equation.

In April last year I started investigating the signalling and infrastructure sectors of the rail industry here in the UK and after many discussions, events and networking evenings I have been put on the “right track”. Starting conversations with Network Rail and given guidance through many institutions of which I am a member of the Permanent Way Institution and the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers.
