What are smart buildings?

A building controlled by a BAS (Building Automation System) is often referred to as an intelligent building or “smart building”.  With the fast growing world of IoT (Internet of Things), buildings owners, operators and occupants are starting to realise how being in digitally connected spaces can support their experiences.  Heating, ventilation, lighting, occupancy and security are just some of the assets within a building. The smart buildings ethos can reach into all industries, whether airports, train stations, production facilities and residential buildings.

Making a building smart using actuators and sensors (ie automation) is what reduces the building’s energy and maintenance costs in comparison to a non-controlled building.

Phoenix Contact is an Industrial Automation manufacturer. With many years of comprehensive skill-set, we provide a platform to which your smart building can thrive. Our company is a world leader in the industry, therefore we believe that international standards are crucial. This said also for the Building Technology Industry.
