The 2019 Engineering Design Show took place earlier this month at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry and in case you missed it, here are some highlights of the show.

The show attracted 4000 resisted visitors and covered a broad range of solutions from robotics, 3D printing, embedded systems, device connectivity and much more besides.

On the Phoenix Contact stand, we showcased the latest device connection technology including our new FINEPITCH board-to-board connectors, the award winning Environmental Case System (ECS) designed for harsh environments, and our extensive range of connector solutions designed for the automatic pick and place reflow assembly line.

The ECS attracted a lot of attention, given its robust IP protected design, and the fact that there are so many more applications for electronic devices needing protection from the elements. Visitors to EDS reported working on more outdoor device applications from trackside control solutions to wireless communications and monitoring.

The ECS offers UV and IP69K protection and can be mounted on a pole, post or wall, and provides easy access to the electronics for routine or emergency maintenance.

The other big topic was connectors for the automatic pick and place reflow production line as customers are always looking to save space on the PCB and reduce production costs. EDS is very focused on embedded systems and PCB technology but connectivity is often considered as an afterthought during the design process. We showcased the many solutions for surface mount (SMD) or through-hole reflow (THR) connectors which offer the benefits of optimising PCB design and saving costs in production.

If you missed the Engineering Design Show this year we will be back next year so please save the date. 14th and 15th of October 2020 at the Ricoh Arena Coventry.
