As the previous week has shown, the UK is no stranger to rain. So when we need to transfer data, signals and power outside of the building, Phoenix Contact’s outdoor cabling and connectors come into their own.
You may initially think that finding a solution that is waterproof will suffice. But there are other factors to consider in the outside environment. Factors which could seriously undermine your installation’s performance if not given the attention they deserve.
I suppose the obvious ones are:
- UV resistance
- Ingress Protection (IP ratings such as IP65 or IP69K for instance)
- Shock resistance
- Temperature shock capability

I’d like to start by introducing you to our QPD installation range. QPD stands for Quickon Power Distribution, Quickon being our insulation displacement method of termination the wires. Time is drastically cut by not having to prepare or ferrule the individual cores and does away with the need for any specialised tooling. The installation system also achieves high ingress protection levels achieving IP66, IP68 and IP69K simultaneously.
