Easily combine various connection technologies within the same enclosure

From |

Written by Gary Nelson, Senior Product Manager- Device Connections.

Are you looking for an easy way to combine conventional connection technologies for signal, data and power within one electronics enclosure for use on a DIN rail?

ICSThe requirements of the internet of things and Industry 4.0 means more and more technology needs to be incorporated within less space and the ability to bring multiple connection technologies onto the DIN rail is becoming increasingly more challenging. A typical device now needs to be able to communicate with units sitting directly along the same DIN rail as well as cloud bases or other devices located elsewhere within the facility whilst being as compact as possible to save space within the control cabinet.

In 2004, we released our first DC UPS, the first generation QUINT-UPS, which is still in use and purchased today.

Then in 2011, we released the QUINT UPS-IQ, which for the first time allowed some monitoring of the connected battery to see such things as battery status, battery lifetime, and remaining runtime. With this generation of UPS it is possible to pass this info up to higher level controls but requires additional hardware.

What has surge protection got to do with safety?

From |

Written by Mark Lloyd and Andy Maskell

Anything that increases the reliability of your safety circuit has to be a good thing…..

In fact, it is a basic requirement when using safety relays or Safe PLCs that the outputs are protected against overcurrent and overvoltage to prevent dangerous failures.

In the case of a safety relay output, this may be in the form of a welded relay contact for example.

Monday Blog – Discover inspiring solutions within the water industry

From |

Written by Mark Cain

On my 10th week with Phoenix Contact I visited the Phoenix offices in Bad Pyrmont with a visit to Blomberg as well. Joachim Pucker, Global Industry Manager for Water and Waste Water and Hauke Abbas, Industry Manager for Water and Waste Water were excellent hosts for the three days. Among other things, we discussed some of the projects completed in the water industry in Germany and different solutions that have been created for specific applications.

Two solutions which were of particular interest were a wet well and pump control and monitoring system. Both can be ordered on single part numbers and offer a complete solution for these particular applications. They both come pre-programmed which removes the need for a trained technician to programme the plc, just power up the system, set some simple parameters on the HMI and you are good to go.
