What are surge voltages and what harm do they cause?
Surge voltages are short, pulse like, voltage peaks with steep rising edges and are also known as transients.
The origin of these transients can be external, i.e lightning, but is much more likely to be caused by your own equipment, i.e switching of motors or transformers or the interruption of a short circuit by protective measures.

I was going to have a really snappy heading to lure you in, yet when I thought about it I realised that those three simple words actually express more than enough to hopefully make you want to read more. If I’m being perfectly honest, I wouldn’t immediately be drawn to housings as the most exciting and dynamic of products to decide to write a blog about, however my opinion has been recently radically changed.
Why is that you ask? Play along- you know how it works with my blogs by now!

What is a solution?
“A means of solving a problem or dealing with a difficult situation”
It is, in my humble opinion, a product/products which add value to the customer – whether that means some items assembled on a DIN Rail or supplied in a control panel with PLC / HMI , all programmed and ready to use.

In the current economic climate ways of reducing operating costs is always high on the agenda. Therefore reducing overheads by minimising stock holding, reducing time spent on design and using components that are quick and easy to assemble all contribute to savings.
The new Heavycon Evo industrial plug-in connectors offer opportunities in all these areas.

Data is everywhere and an integral part of today’s control & process industries. There is nothing new about the use of data in industrial applications, but increasing volumes and real-time demands present real challenges for system designs. Planning for future system requirements is therefore an important consideration. Building extra capacity into a system for future needs starts with the architecture and is reflected in the component parts.

Want to test one of our products but can’t afford the down-time on-site?
In today’s tough financial climate, it is particularly important to ensure that any new components that you change or add to your systems are suitable and will do what you want and expect them to do. However, this financial climate then also often contributes to the inability to stop tight production schedules to be able to complete the required tests.

There are over 30 million Hart Instruments currently installed within the process industry, but only 10% of these are being used to their full potential.

I have been with Phoenix Contact for just under 8 years now and have seen many new products launched every year. Quite often it is said that the amount of products Phoenix Contact launches every year at the Hanover Messe is both a blessing and a curse – a blessing because there is always something new to help our customers and a curse because keeping track of thousands of new products can be tricky.
So, with that in mind, I thought it would be interesting to list my personal favourite products/solutions we have launched in the 8 years I have been here.

No need to worry, Phoenix Contact has a variety of solutions to monitor and prevent potential supply problems!
Even a brief input voltage interruption can paralyse a system, often resulting in financial losses with an unplanned shutdown. Prevent this by choosing a tailor-made solution from our product range for DC and AC applications and keep your production running smoothly.
Traditional UPS solutions may keep your process running for a short while, but they give little or no diagnostic information on the system and in particular the state of the battery. Will it actually work when needed?
The Quint UPS-IQ uses Phoenix Contact’s newly developed IQ technology to remedy that situation and increase your system knowledge and availability.
