We are in the midst of a third industrial revolution where communication, energy and transport are all evolving and converging.

During the first industrial revolution in the nineteenth century news reached the masses thanks to the invention of the steam powered rotary printing press. Coal became the new cheap energy source which went on to power the railways connecting town, cities and, critically, people. In the second industrial revolution during the twentieth century new forms of communication were introduced with the telephone, radio and television. Cheap oil was discovered which went on to power a transport revolution and the rise of the automobile.

Is it me, or has this year flown by so quickly?

It seems only like yesterday that we were lapping up and then moaning about the UK heatwave like the typical brits we are. But, with October on the horizon, we are getting ready for taking our network technology on the road to the IPExpo in London on the 3rd and 4th of October.
What is IPExpo? I hear you typing away on google. IPExpo is an IT exhibition that is renowned for its speakers and technology on display. It is one of the biggest IT fairs in Europe.

Choosing the right solution to optimise production and reduce assembly costs.

It wasn’t so long ago that PCB production was predominantly manual assembly of through-hole components followed by wave soldering and then manual test and inspection. In the mid-nineties I was tasked with introducing surface mount technology (SMT) into fire detection products and worked closely with production to optimise the design and manufacturing processes. Over time we were able to significantly reduce the use of the manual assembly and the wave oven, saving production costs and time consuming maintenance.
