Are you aware of the hundreds of products and many solutions from Phoenix Contact which are suitable for use in the Water and Wastewater market?
Here are just 5 that we feel can make a real difference:
1.System Cabling
Wiring I/O modules with individual wires is very time consuming and wiring errors requiring tedious troubleshooting cannot be ruled out.
The VARIOFACE Professional System cabling solution is made up from 3 parts:
- PLC front adapters,
- System cables, and
- Termination boards
These bring many advantages to the user:
- Versatile functions
- Relay
- Solid-State-Relay
- 1-to-1-straight fitting
- Different connection methods
- Fast, error-free and uniform wiring
- Simple planning
- Configuration cross-reference list
- Online selector
Phoenix Contact have cabling solutions for all major PLC and DCS manufacturers.
2. Contactron hybrid motor starters and the Electronic Motor Manager
The Contactron motor starter has many features that benefit our customers over and above those a traditional motor starter can provide
- Contactron can be used as a 4 in one motor starter providing Forward running, Reverse running, Motor overload protection and Emergency stop facility for safety applications.
- With Contactron’s unique switching action you will get up to 30 million electrical operations.
- The Contactron is just 22.5mm wide whatever the application
- You can save up to 70% wiring time because of Contactron’s in-built interlock and load wiring circuitry
- Its integrated safety function enables its use in safety-related applications up to SIL3 or Ple
- Contactron hybrid motor starters also achieve type 2 co-ordination to IEC/EN 60947-4-2. This means protection for your personnel and systems – even in the event of a short circuit. Following a short circuit fault the fuses are simply replaced and the Contactron motor starter is ready for operation again.
The Contactron EMM electronic motor manager also offers more than a traditional overload:
- Bimetallic overload function Class 5-40
- Thermistor evaluation
- Monitoring of all electric parameters (U, I, P, S, Q, cos φ, …)
- Operating data acquisition (operating hours, energy consumption, operating cycle counter…)
With the EMM you can protect and monitor your complete system, not just your motor!
3. Wireless
Laying cable within the Water/Wastewater sector can be extremely expensive due to the difficulties faced surrounding long distances and/or coping with physical barriers, such as roads, rail lines, or vast bodies of water.
Wireless solutions such as the Radioline device can eliminate these problems. The following advantages can be found:
- Distances of up to 5km can be covered with the 2.4GHz frequency device, or up to 20km with the new 868MHz device.
- Out of the box Radioline only requires a 24V supply. The thumb wheel set-up allows you to quickly configure a wireless network with no software programming required
- Radioline is a versatile product. Point to point, line, star and even self-healing mesh networks are all possible when transmitting I/O.
- In addition to wirelessly sending I/O signals such as digital, analogue and temperature, the Radio itself can be used on its own to transmit Serial or even Profibus data transparently.
Our totally unique selling point is that we will come to any UK site and conduct a physical test with our Wireless solutions. This is totally free of charge.

4. Profibus repeaters and Profibus plugs
Phoenix Contact have a wide range of Profibus products and solutions for the water/wastewater sector. Two key items in this industry are:
Profibus Repeaters
These allow you to extend your Profibus network regardless of the data rate required. They can act simply as a Profibus repeater, or can convert different media such as Fibre Optic cable back up into Profibus. Our PSI MOS range offers the following advantages:
- The start delimiter detection filters damaged Profibus telegrams
- Modular connections across the DIN-Rail reduce wiring and installation effort
- High grade electrical immunity to interference, gives you peace of mind
This product is often not really considered when designing, implementing and installing your Profibus network. However, the majority of problems experienced in the field link back to poorly made or incorrectly wired connections. These can often be costly and difficult to find in large networks.
The new M12 variant eliminates the risk of poorly made or incorrect connections, and also eradicates the need for crimping and soldering as it is a completely tool-less design. This can be used in combination with our M12 over-moulded cables, which can be of any length.

5. Software libraries
Every day, systems integrators and application engineers face the challenge of needing to accommodate specific requirements with economical and innovative solutions. When there is a pre-existing template of how to create such a solution, this can save a lot of time and money.
Created to simplify automation processes and systems within water and wastewater treatment, it is sector specific but based on standard function blocks.
- Sector-specific library for process automation in water and waste water treatment applications
- From the user to the user
- Standardised blocks for your customer specific solution
- Reduced engineering costs
Resy+
A range of libraries offered for the Resy+ telecontrol system providing different ways of communication over standardised remote control protocols.
- Resy ODP Open GPRS-based communication
- Resy 104 IEC 60870-5+-104 Data transfer via standard TCP/IP network
- Resy 101 IEC 60870-5-101 Serial communication via own permanent line
- Resy SMS Worldwide alarm generation by SMS, fax or mail
- Resy Net1F Data exchange between the system bus and modern protocols
- Resy Web Sending Mail with Phoenix PLC
