I want to start this blog by jogging back to my memories of around April/ May time when, due to the Covid 19 virus spread, we were all in a national lockdown. I live in Blackpool and my region got hit hard with the virus. But I am not here writing this to talk about the virus, but more so about the by-product of the situation I found myself in- did anyone notice how clean the air became?
Air pollution fell dramatically due to reduced vehicle emissions and air traffic. I noticed how clean the beach and sea water became with less waste being left (pet hate) and I even volunteered to clean the beaches in the evenings. Of course, there was less human activity but during this time it was evident to see the impact we, as human beings, and our activities, have had on this planet. I believe this has given the powers that be a great opportunity to see the shift that is needed to protect our environment and allow us to live healthier, cleaner lives.
Every day, in the news and other media outlets, projects are being discussed and implemented at a much faster scale than in previous years. I do believe that advancements in research and in our current technologies has given us the ability to start moving these projects forward on monumental scales. Of course, we already have a lot of sustainable energy projects and established renewable energy sites out there, however major players in the oil industry are having to realign their strategic goalposts due to the volatility in barrel prices and the demand for cleaner sources of energy. This means a huge shift to cleaner sources is upon us.
At Phoenix Contact we recognise this demand and the monumental shift for cleaner sustainable energy solutions, from battery storage, smart devices for energy metering right through to the world of electric vehicles. We have solutions for data and power connectivity as and when it is required.
Going forward this year, and for the foreseeable future, this sector is of global importance and we want to be at the forefront of your minds when you are looking for the right connectivity solution. Whether you are designing the latest state of the art IoT smart device or designing a new electric car charge point.

I wish you all a much better 2021 than what we have just gone through in 2020. It was a tough year, but it has also given us an opportunity to build a cleaner, sustainable future for generations to come.
