Factories of the Future

From |

This week’s blog is written by our guest blogger Michelle Richards, Marketing Executive-  EPLAN.

Industry 4.0With the next industrial revolution around the corner, highly intelligent connected systems are crucial in the transformation of traditional plants into smart factories.

The next industrial revolution, named Industry 4.0, is a high-tech strategy which has been adopted by the German government and now being introduced to the UK which promotes the computerisation of traditional industries such as manufacturing. The ultimate goal is to create intelligent factories that encompass cyber-physical production systems that combine communications, IT data and physical elements. Here, machines talk to products and other machines, objects deliver decision-critical data and information is processed and distributed in real time.

Surges – an underestimated risk!

From |

Written by Fraser Cowie, Product Marketing Manager- Interface

Are you protecting all possible circuits in your application or only the power lines?

Most companies are aware of the need to protect their power lines from the effects of surges generated by lightning strikes (LEMP – Lightning ElectroMagnetic Pulse) or man-made surges caused by switching devices, like circuit breakers or contactors(SEMPs – Switching ElectroMagnetic Pulse).

However a significant number stop there and fail to go one stage further to protect their final loads. This is probably the single biggest cause of production stops in industrial applications today.

Heavycon Evo plastic range update

From |

Written by Scott Mulholland, Product Manager- Industrial Components

Heavycon Evo Combinations

Within one size sleeve housing, 8 variants can be achieved.

The Heavycon Evo B series plastic range, manufactured in fiberglass-reinforced Polyamide was first launched in 2013. The product offered many features and benefits. Being able to combine cable glands in both vertical and horizontal orientation on the same sleeve housing allowed users to reduce the number of different housings required by 70% compared to industry standard aluminum housings.

The matching cable glands for clamp sizes M20 to M40 could be freely combined with any sleeve and base element in sizes B6, B10, B16, and B24, minimising the number of variants. This reduced stock holding overheads and reduced time spent on design by using components that were quick and easy to assemble contributing to overall savings.
