Marking systems…the bar has been raised!

From |

Written by Andy Neat, Product Manager- Marking & Installation

When you think about marking in general, the first thing that springs to mind are the ‘little white tags’ that pop into the sides of terminals to identify them or the small numbers that slide onto a cable that I usually drop down the back of a panel never to be seen again! Three years ago I took the job as a ‘Marking System Specialist’ at Phoenix Contact which in part was due to the new printers and technologies Phoenix Contact were introducing to the marking world.

We have such ground breaking technologies as the Bluemark CLED , which uses UV light to cure ink permanently, and our most popular range the Thermomark Card & Roll, which uses a nice twist on thermal transfer printing to speed up what can be the laborious task of marking up a cabinet or panel.

Among other printers we have here at Phoenix Contact, our goal is to make the panel/cabinet/machine builder’s life a lot easier and we have succeeded in this so far, becoming the company with the biggest industrial marking range in world….but where do we go from here?

Raspberry Pi gets a new home.

From |

Written by Duncan Nicol – Market Segment Manager – Device Connections

The Raspberry Pi single board computer has just celebrated its 4th birthday and in its short life has reinvigorated the world of computing and, more specifically, computer programming for a new generation of school children, hobbyist and application engineers. The latter have come to realise that for around £30 you have a tried and tested core ingredient for an industrial IO system with a world of possibilities, without the need for expensive industrial controllers (just don’t tell the industrial controller bods).

Of course this is great news. However the Raspberry Pi was not originally intended for industrial applications and as such is not packaged for the control cabinet or industrial environment.

Not, that is, until now.

Crimpfox CENTRUS …the new standard.

From |

Written by Andy Neat, Product Manager- Marking & Installation

Do you ever look at a cabinet or panel that needs 500+ terminations made off and the thought of all that crimping makes your fingers ache before you even pick up a ferrule?!

I do know that since I broke my right hand trying to be Goalkeeper for my local football team when I was 21, I now resort to using my left (weaker) hand to crimp as the crooked fingers on my right hand simply aren’t fit for purpose…or at least for squeezing a set of 16mm crimping pliers!

Cyberattacks- they could happen to you!

Written by Gareth Chamberlain- Technical Support Engineer (Automation)

Quick question?  Do you know who is looking at your data on-site or remotely?

With the recent events in the Ukraine can you afford to take that risk? The December 23rd outage at the Prykarpattaoblenergo Power plant in the western region of Ukraine suffered a scenario that few organisations would want to experience.

Power supplies- less space, more energy efficiency

From |

Written by Fraser Cowie, Product Marketing Manager- Interface

All panel and machine builders are under pressure from their customers and their competitors to reduce their carbon footprint and use less of the world’s natural resource. One way to do this is reduce the space taken up by the control gear in their panels and use more energy efficient products.

Phoenix Contact have produced the UNO power supply range where energy and space saving are just two of the benefits on offer.
