1. Select the right product for your application
Unmanaged switches, Managed switches, Media Converters, Hubs, Wireless Ethernet …………choosing the right product is critical in achieving the desired outcome. Each application is different and selecting the right product is very important. We, at Phoenix Contact, have a great range of products and solutions.

2. Managed or Unmanaged switch?
There is often a lot of confusion over whether an Unmanaged or a Managed switch should be used. The below table gives a brief overview of the major differences.
3. Remotely accessing machines that have Ethernet networks
If your machine or equipment in the field communicates over Ethernet, we have a range of Modem solutions that allow you to access your machine or equipment remotely.
If the end user site has no Ethernet infrastructure in place we have a range of mobile based Modems which allow remote access using a standard SIM card with data enabled.
Equally, if the site has an Ethernet network already in place, Phoenix Contact has a range of secure routers, which also allow for remote access to happen.
4. What about a network planning tool?
A robust network can’t be designed without a planning tool. At Phoenix Contact we have planning and diagnostic tools for both cabled Ethernet networks and Wireless Ethernet networks.

5. Wireless Ethernet, is that an option?
At Phoenix Contact we have a range of WLAN and Bluetooth devices, which can transmit Ethernet over distances which range from 300m to a couple of miles. In actual fact, if you use our WLAN or Bluetooth devices in conjunction with our Safety Bridge product you can transmit safety signals wirelessly. The highest safety levels can be achieved in accordance with the latest standards (ISO 13849-1 & 62061). This means that you can achieve PLe/SIL3/Cat4 systems wirelessly.
This is extremely useful for certain applications where the cabling for the safety circuit is difficult or the cable is prone to breaking. A good example is a transfer car application.
