In a couple of weekend’s time, we will exhibit at “Fully Charged Live” at the Silverstone Circuit. An exhibition of energy and transportation technologies, with an, Ask the Expert area and lots of theatre sessions including panel discussions around the subject of Electric Vehicles in the UK. Hosts include Robert Llewellyn, Jonny Smith and Helen Czerski from the YouTube show “Fully Charged”
I am excited to be involved and we will show our charge controllers, new HPC Charge Technology and our EV Charging Suite.
The EV Charge Control Advanced Plus combines the fundamental control and monitoring functions for the charging process. With AC charging in accordance with IEC-61851-1, the controller offers DC residual current monitoring, an automatic connector release for voltage failure events and a convenient user authorisation system via RFID. This makes the controller a great choice for semi-public and commercial charging sites.
Drivers demand short charging times to make the electric vehicle option work for them in their busy lives. The HPC technology is based on a cooling system that makes charging currents of up to 500A possible, without compromising on safety. With this technology, the potential is to charge your electric vehicle in just a few minutes.
As the take up of EV’s speeds up, there is the concern for the infrastructure to be in place otherwise the range anxiety increases. We need to generate range confidence so more charging parks are required throughout the UK.
The EV Charging Suite from Phoenix Contact forms the interface between the driver, charging park, grid operator and back-end provider. This means the load management system ensures the optimum distribution of power to the connected vehicles via the charging points, preventing failures due to overloads. The software supports the management of the charging points. Allowing for authorisation methods and consumption-based billing system via the backend provider.
The key points are that the software enables future-proof and scalability of sites. This is thanks to the easy management of additional charge points and reliable logging of all charging. The real-time visualisation and precise billing via OCPP and the ability to be integrated into building energy management systems all aid the scalability of sites.
