Step Power power supplies from Phoenix Contact achieve a high energy efficiency in their class. A 48 V AC power supply is now available in a housing that is just 18 mm wide.
These power supplies operate flexibly with input voltages extending from 43 up to 52 V AC or 60 up to 80 V DC. The module saves energy as a result of its high energy efficiency: The power loss under no-load conditions is less than 0.3 W. With an efficiency of 81 percent at an input voltage of 48 V AC and a rated load of 0.5 A / 24 V DC, very little electrical energy is converted into undesirable thermal energy. This not only saves energy, but also extends the service life of the components.
The broad temperature range of –25 to +70 °C allows the unit to be used in a diverse range of applications. The power supply operates according to the VI characteristic. This means that it does not shut down in the event of a short circuit or an overload, but continually supplies the maximum short-circuit current of 1 A. In this way, capacitive loads as well as devices with DC-DC transformers in the input circuit are reliably supplied with power.
The power supply is snapped onto a mounting rail or screwed to any flat surface without requiring any additional accessories. Presently, this series includes 16 power supplies. The 18, 36, 54, 72, and 90 mm modules supply output currents from 0.5 to 6.5 A and output voltages from 5 to 48 V DC.
