I thought it would be a good time to talk about one element that will be critical to this future change and that is <strong>Power to X<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.phoenixcontact.com\/en-us\/all-electric-society\" class=\"broken_link\">All Electric Society<\/a> to become a reality, a lasting solution is needed that addresses the storage and transportation of energy generated by renewable sources &#8211; although liquid and gaseous fuels will still be needed in the immediate future, primarily by the mobility sector. However, in the future, these fuels will also be produced using renewable electricity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>If we take the examples of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.phoenixcontact.com\/online\/portal\/gb?1dmy&amp;urile=wcm%3apath%3a\/gben\/web\/main\/solutions\/subcategory_pages\/Solar\/c24ecfca-a303-433a-bda4-4d9a3fd7031c?cpn=blog\" class=\"broken_link\">solar<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.phoenixcontact.com\/online\/portal\/gb?1dmy&amp;urile=wcm%3apath%3a\/gben\/web\/main\/solutions\/subcategory_pages\/Wind_energy\/253f54a0-e6ea-45b5-965d-8733d7c66fdb?cpn=blog\" class=\"broken_link\">wind<\/a> power. There are plenty of locations where these renewable sources can produce an excess of electricity. However we cannot control the weather and solar production is greatly reduced at night. The solution is <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/cslihcR6Dcs\">Power to X<\/a>, where X represents energy rich, gases, liquids and chemicals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is where surplus capacity from renewable energy gets transformed into these e-fuels. These e-fuels such as hydrogen, or climate neutral synthetic fuels can then be stored and transported using existing infrastructure such as pipelines and tankers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.phoenixcontact.com\/marketing-gb\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/01\/Picture1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"816\" height=\"406\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.phoenixcontact.com\/marketing-gb\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/01\/Picture1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-59042\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.phoenixcontact.com\/marketing-gb\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/01\/Picture1.png 816w, https:\/\/blog.phoenixcontact.com\/marketing-gb\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/01\/Picture1-300x149.png 300w, https:\/\/blog.phoenixcontact.com\/marketing-gb\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/01\/Picture1-768x382.png 768w, https:\/\/blog.phoenixcontact.com\/marketing-gb\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2022\/01\/Picture1-624x310.png 624w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 816px) 100vw, 816px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of these e-fuels may also be generated as a by-product of other processes. However these processes will also use renewable energy, or their waste products (such as CO2) captured and used elsewhere in other processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In short, Power to X is a key enabler for a CO2 neutral society by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Making renewable <a href=\"https:\/\/www.phoenixcontact.com\/online\/portal\/gb?1dmy&amp;urile=wcm%3apath%3a\/gben\/web\/main\/solutions\/subcategory_pages\/energy_technologies_energy_storage_systems\/4c85075e-fbaa-4361-b6bf-e5d286c5326d?cpn=blog\" class=\"broken_link\">energy <strong>storable<\/strong><\/a>, <strong>distributable<\/strong> and <strong>available on demand<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Store large amounts of energy over longer periods<\/li><li>Enable <strong>sector coupling<\/strong> between the different fuel producers<\/li><li>Carbon capture of CO2<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Phoenix Contact is heavily invested with the Power to X concept to bring forward the dream of an All Electric Society.
