
{"id":55738,"date":"2016-09-12T09:00:39","date_gmt":"2016-09-12T08:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.phoenixcontact.com\/marketing-gb\/?p=55738"},"modified":"2019-06-12T10:58:13","modified_gmt":"2019-06-12T09:58:13","slug":"go-wireless-ex-areas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.phoenixcontact.com\/marketing-gb\/go-wireless-ex-areas\/","title":{"rendered":"Go wireless in Ex areas"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Written by Dave Hall, Industry Manager- \u00a0UK Process<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Getting process signals back from instruments on plant to the controller via copper cables can be an expensive and time consuming exercise, particularly if the instrument lies within an Ex or Exd area.<\/p>\n<p>In my experience, while discussing applications with project engineers working in various industries \u2013particularly in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.phoenixcontact.com\/online\/portal\/gb?1dmy&amp;urile=wcm%3apath%3a\/gben\/web\/main\/solutions\/subcategory_pages\/Water_wastewater_treatment\/08d0ae47-8e32-4ee1-bebd-18083e751c39?cpn=blog\" class=\"broken_link\">water industry<\/a>&#8211; \u00a0the cost and time involved for contractors to dig trenches and lay cables is increasing and takes long periods of time to complete and test.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Similar comments are made by plant engineers in the p<a href=\"https:\/\/www.phoenixcontact.com\/online\/portal\/gb?1dmy&amp;urile=wcm%3apath%3a\/gben\/web\/main\/solutions\/subcategory_pages\/Process_industry\/999eed36-217b-4bf7-ad79-135ab791fd1b?cpn=blog\" class=\"broken_link\">harmaceutical and chemical industries <\/a>where costs are magnified when having to send signals across hazardous Ex areas &#8211; more time and expense is incurred with contractors having to go through Health &amp; Safety training to enable them to work in hazardous areas.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.phoenixcontact.com\/assets\/images_ed\/global\/web_content_1col\/pic_con1_a_0054922_int.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"220\" height=\"209\" \/>To eliminate most of these costs, companies have turned to the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.phoenixcontact.com\/online\/portal\/gb?1dmy&amp;urile=wcm%3apath%3a\/gben\/web\/main\/products\/subcategory_pages\/wireless_io_p-08-11-03\/7015d97b-fd6d-4e2f-8cf9-cf8f62be5e63\/7015d97b-fd6d-4e2f-8cf9-cf8f62be5e63?cpn=blog\" class=\"broken_link\"> Radioline wireless system<\/a> from Phoenix Contact. We have installed over 30 of these systems within the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.phoenixcontact.com\/online\/portal\/gb?1dmy&amp;urile=wcm%3apath%3a\/gben\/web\/main\/solutions\/subcategory_pages\/Water_wastewater_treatment\/08d0ae47-8e32-4ee1-bebd-18083e751c39?cpn=blog\" class=\"broken_link\">water industry<\/a> over the past 5 to 6 years. Radioline is being used successfully to transmit both analogue and digital signals from a moving bridge on treatment beds back to a central controller, some 3Km away. It has also been successfully used on energy monitoring projects, \u00a0on isolated pumping stations transmitting signals serially back to the control room and subsequently by Ethernet back to the main SCADA system.<\/p>\n<p>In the pharmaceutical industry Radioline is being used\u00a0in a large plant sending signals from\u00a0 serial signals monitoring any gas leakages given off storage tanks sited within an Ex area.
