The Contactron range of Hybrid Motor Starters has been on the market for 4 years now, however the offer has continually improved, evolving to meet new customer challenges and applications!

Let us take a look at the existing product range and also what’s new. The Contactron hybrid motor starter now comes in 3 distinct flavours:

contactron2• The original: A clever motor starter, for up to 9 amps, that combines forward running , reverse running, overload protection and the possibility to integrate the unit into a SIL3 /PLe emergency stop safety circuit. All of this in a unit only 22.5mm wide! These units now come with the option of screw or push in connections for easier cabling.

contactron3• A Type 2 co-ordinated version (to IEC 60947-4-2) incorporating fast blow fuses to protect you plant and personnel. The Contactron Hybrid Motor Starter can be quickly and easily put back into service following a short circuit fault, by simply replacing the fuses. With 2 different adapters this unit can also be mounted straight on to DIN rail or on to 60mm bus bars.

contactron4• A SmartWire DT version that makes the complex cabling of the control and signal levels simpler and clearer. Furthermore this also allows you to connect the hybrid motor starters on to standard fieldbus systems, such as Profibus, CANOpen and EthernetIP.

A new product for the market is the Contactron EMM Electronic Motor Manager – offering more than just motor protection, but also protecting the system mechanics. How does it do this? – Through permanent power measurements it detects critical load states and
switches the motor off in the case of emergency conditions. The Motor Manager also optimises maintenance and helps during start up. The benefits of this are:

  • Integrated full motor protection
  • Protection of system parts
  • High level system availability
  • No need to use costly sensors
  • Easy configuration and diagnostics using free software IFS-CONF, which can be downloaded from our website here (click on the “Downloads” tab).
  • Option to connect up to 32 EMM units on to a Profibus network

The Contactron range is completed with conventional Solid State Contactors for wear-free switching and reversing of single or 3 phase loads:

1. Single phase units up to 50 amps
2. Three-phase units to 37 amps

Fast, durable and rugged products that are resistant to shock and vibration, and suitable for use in polluted or aggressive environments.
